Airborne is a technology leader in the design, manufacturing, automation and industrialization of advanced composite materials, thus enabling our clients to be more competitive by radically reducing costs and saving time. After the spin-off of our ‘Airborne Oil and Gas’ business Airborne International started in 2014.
We saw the need for solutions to make composites significantly more affordable and this has become even more pressing throughout the industry. We want to become the market standard in composite industrialization solutions, based on a digital platform. In fact, we will build on our core know-how of composite manufacturing, where Airborne enables advanced composite manufacturing as a service.
This is based on a platform with the Airborne toolbox of digital twin engines and automation building blocks, which can help customers develop much faster with significant benefits in term of efficiency and effectiveness. Through data, we are able to model, predict and improve the production process.

Airborne works for several markets: Space, Aeronautics, Marine and Services (MRO).
For Space we are market leader in solar-array substrate panels for European satellites. We are very proud to be part of satellites such as Sentinel 1 and 2, EarthCare, Galileo FOC, EDRS- C and Astrobus. But we are also working on some 50 more, including Jason-CS / Sentinel 6, JUICE and MetOp-SG. To this date we delivered more than 200 sandwich panels for satellites.
In the Aeronautics sector we develop and install automated composite manufacturing cells for the production of small to medium sized composite aerospace parts enabling our customers to reduce cost and lead times. Our concept is based on off the shelve robotics using interchangeable end effectors resulting in a low CAPEX, high flexible, modular solutions. All developed automated solutions are implemented in our own composite facilities and will be implemented at our customers based on “Prove and Move” principles.
Airborne Maritime (AEL) combines Design & Engineering with industrialized manufacturing and in-house R&D which is a strong enabler in the world of high-end composites. We believe that knowing what we design and how to make it gives a real understanding of both the possibilities and challenges of composite designs and that this is the best way to optimize and improve.
Airborne Services is specializing in the maintenance, repair and modification of composite aircraft components with a focus on helicopter rotor blades for both military as well as civil operators and OEM’s. We focus on short turnaround times and reduced costs for our clients.

Forze Hydrogen Electric Racing is a Dreamteam from TU Delft. The team consists of 65 students from various studies, from aerospace engineering to industrial design. They work together to promote hydrogen technology by designing, building and controlling this unique race car.
Airborne provides space and technical support in the production of all composite components of the Forze VIII. The parts are made in the Digital Factory for Composites (hall 42) and in Airborne’s hall 70. Airborne supervises the production. In addition, Airborne also provides other facilities (ovens, vacuum pumps, etc.) and auxiliary materials.

After some years building the back-up structures for the Atacama Large Millimetre Array (ALMA) in the period 2006-2011, we are once more involved in building an astronomers dreams. This June we will deliver the first 3 composite telescope structures for the BlackGEM-project: a telescope array to detect the golden glow of gravitational wave events. It is to be installed at the ESO location La Silla Chile. A first successful sister demonstrator was already delivered in 2016 for the MeerLICHT-project, a Airborne co-engineered Carbon Fibre Reinforced (CFRP) telescope structure taken in operation in 2017 at South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO). On December 18, 2017 Airborne Services received the MAA-NLD 145 accreditation. The Director of the Military Airworthiness Authority of the Netherlands (MAA-NLD), Colonel Jan-Paul Apon handed over the official accreditation to the Director of Airborne Services, Mr. Marco Brinkman. The event was witnessed by the Commander of the Logistic Centre Woensdrecht (LCW), Air Commodore Richard Laurijssen and personnel of the Program Management and 980 Squadrons.
