Globalfoundries appoints former NXP’er as sales boss

Struggling foundry chipmaker Globalfoundries has appointed Michael Noonen as senior vice president responsible for sales and marketing, reporting to CEO Ajit Manocha. Noonen will also be responsible for customer engineering and quality, an area Globalfoundries seemed to have some problems with in 2011, with rumors of yield problems and deteriorating relations with first customer and parent Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

Noonen, formerly an executive vice president with NXP responsible for sales and marketing, will be based in Silicon Valley and takes responsibility for a recently re-organized worldwide sales and marketing operation. Noonen, along with NXP's chief technology officer Rene Penning de Vries, developed and implemented NXP's high-performance mixed-signal corporate strategy.

"Mike is an experienced industry veteran with a spectacular track record of delivering customer success and shareholder value," said Manocha, who had also served as an executive with NXP in his career prior to joining Globalfoundries (Milpitas, Calif.).

Prior to working for NXP, Noonen held several executive positions with National Semiconductor Corp. And prior to that Noonen worked for Cisco Systems, 8x8, and NCR Microelectronics.
