Contracts between the participating organisations were signed recently, and the actual construction of the instrument can now begin. TROPOMI is an advanced absorption spectrometer that will play a key role future climate research and air-quality measurement from space. This Dutch instrument is expected to be launched in 2015 on board ESA’s Sentinel-5 Precursor satellite, part of the European GMES initiative.
12/12/11 MECAL acquires TNO-technology for vibration reduction (Dutch article)
11/02/11 TNO to support NTS Group in precision machining development (Dutch article)
10/11/11 TNO cooperates on technological breakthroughs for intelligent and integrated lighting systems
The lighting industry is currently going through a radical transformation, driven by both the rapid progress of Solid State Lighting (SSL) and semiconductor technologies. Equally influential are changing societal needs like sustainability, improved energy efficiency and CO2 reduction. To overcome these immense challenges, the unlimited potential of LED lighting, like novel form factors and intelligent lighting systems have to be employed to address people’s needs. This will ultimately lead to office workplace flexibility, more productivity, improved well being, good building atmosphere and comfort...
10/07/11 TNO fiber laser sensor measures change in length in the order of 1/1000 of an atom (Dutch article)
Researchers at TNO have developed a fiber optic stretch sensor that can detect stretch change in the order of pico stretch (= 1:1.000.000.000.000). This extremely sensitive sensor is based on fiber laser technology. For a fiber laser with a length of 30mm an example pico stretch corresponds to one trillionth of a change in length of 30mm. This is approximately 1/1000 of an atom...
09/01/11 TNO and HUAWEI launch joint trial of new standard for mobile communication
The worldwide roll-out of LTE is under way. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and is the successor to the UMTS-HSPA standard. This new technology promises substantially faster data speeds at a lower cost price per Megabit. Thanks to the increased bandwidth, LTE offers new application possibilities for mobile communication. LTE is therefore a key enabler of innovation in mobile broadband. In order to explore LTE technology and its possibilities, TNO is launching a trial in cooperation with the world leading ICT solution provider Huawei...
05/31/11 TASS, TNO and TTAI announce partnership ‘Beyond Safe’
TASS, TNO and TTAI have joined forces in a partnership under the name Beyond Safe. Beyond Safe is a joint initiative of the aforementioned independent parties to help the automotive industry face the challenges arising from increasing market demands. The introduction of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) has challenged the automotive industry to move into integrated safety territory. Beyond Safe can add value to this development by offering integrated safety tools and solutions to help OEMs design such cars, and deliver the expertise to validate and certify them early in the design process. By combining TASS' commercial focus and global network with TNO's expertise in Innovative Research & Development and TTAI's state-of-the-art crash testing facilities, Beyond Safe offers a unique combination of software tools, technological solutions, engineering services and testing that will result in the design and production of safer, cleaner, and more efficient vehicles...
04/27/11 Rapid Shape® introduces TNO’s new 3D-printer (Dutch article)
De 3D printer is vorige maand officieel geïntroduceerd in Basel tijdens de ‘Basel World Show’.
